Visit to Tuscany for the Model Forests project

The 20th and 21th May 2017 a delegation of Mayors and others Institutional Representatives of the Medium Aterno Municipalities, guided by the ILEX team, met the Association “Model Forests of Florentine Mountains” (FMMF) in Londa (Tuscany).

The goal of this meeting was to deepen the functioning of a Model Forest, in view of adopting this management method in our area.

During this visit we met: the The President and the Management Board of the FMMF, some representatives of Tuscany Region and some Mayors of the local Municipalities. Therefore we visited local farms, wine producers, wood factories and the site of a local biomass public boiler.

All these meetings have been very useful to have a more clear idea about the subscription process to  the International Model Forest Network and about the management of a Model Forest, even considering the deep differences between our area and the one of Florentine Mountains.

The next step of this project will be to start the cooperation between the Abruzzo Regional Authorities and the board of the International Model Forest Network; then we will begin the participatory process needed in order to candidate our area to become the second “Model Forest Area” in Italy.
